THE OBELISK

Gideon Davis, whose behind-the-scenes negotiating skills have earned him the role of Peacemaker in conflicts around the globe, knows more about hush-hush discussions in Capitol corridors than he does about hand-to-hand combat. What's more, he's sworn off using guns in the aftermath of his parents' tragic murder-suicide that happened when he was a mere boy. But his more practical, tactical skills come into play of necessity when he's called upon by family friend and government big wig Earl Parker in an effort to bring his rogue agent brother Tillman in. Gideon is transported from a D.C. awards dinner (he's the one being honoured) to the jungles of the oil-rich far eastern nation of Mohan where Tillman has promised to turn himself in. Upon Gideon's arrival in Mohan, plans go immediately awry and he must evade hostile locals to make his way to The Obelisk - a state-of-the-art oil rig which has been seized by terrorists. Both Tillman - who doesn't seem to have surrender in mind - and Earl Parker are aboard the ill-fated rig; Tillman working solo under cover and Parker as a diplomat-turned-hostage. With the help of oil rig manager Kate Murphy, Gideon launches an unlikely one-man rescue. But those he'd counted on as friends are really enemies and his efforts are quickly undermined. If he is to succeed, Gideon must uncover the true loyalties of those nearest and dearest to him and take a harder look at the events that make him an orphan.
