Marco Polo was supposedly born in Venetian Republic, in what is now Venice, Italy. There are also stories and various documents which point to his ancestry originating in Korčula, Croatia. He was a well known trader and an explorer. He recorded his adventures in a book published as The Travels of Marco Polo. The original copies of his works are lost.
